Better Late than Never...

The Sloshed review of Marjorie's Happy Hour:

Marjorie is a cute little bar -- with the emphasis being on little. Our Sloshed crew grew from 4 to 8, and we made it work, but we were a tad bit crammed into a corner with 2 tables and 8 bar stools between us. That said, we all enjoyed it.

The food prices are pretty good, but keep in mind $2 means only oneof their famous pork sandwiches (totally and completely worth - very, very tasty), and the smallest cheese plate I’ve ever seen. I mean, like, maybe 2 bites of cheese and a piece of flatbread. There were 2 of the thai beef skewers, also tasty, and everyone was upset that they were out of the plaintain chips.

The drink specials are $2.50 for Redstripe, $3 for draft beer, $4 wine and $5 sangria. The sangria was deemed to be acceptable, and is hand-mixed per glass. No pitchers here! The fancy-pants drinks are marked down from $8 to $6, and were all very tasty.

Recommended: the Absolut Citron Lemondrop
The World Famous Mojito
The Absolut Peach Fizz
The Absolut Parfait L’amour (ooh, pretty purple)

All those drinks were PACKED with the alcohol, so if you’re looking for a buzz, order those.

All in all, everyone enjoyed the atmosphere, but not the check so much. Those $6 specials add up, and as a side effect of the tiny food portions, we all left STARVING. Half of us retrated to sushi, the other half to Mexican food.

I believe the main consensus was: cute, but let’s try it again for an actual dinner, and not Happy Hour.

Sloshed does Chapel - 08.01.06

And boy howdy, did we. One of our favorite spots -- Chapel Lounge has comfy booths, oddly comfortable space-agey plastic chairs, dark polished wood, and matches where you'd expect to find holy water. We sure love this former funeral home!

Several of us dove into the Chapel Burger -- meat or veggie pattie for $7 during HH with Tim's Cascade Potato Chips (mmm), fancy cheese and pickled onion/spinach garnish, the cheese pizette ($5), bread w/tarragon butter ($3, and not so tasty, according to the butter eaters), and a regular priced Tomato, Basil, and Garlic pizette ($10), which was also reportedly yummers.

For the $4 Martinis, I had my usual Pink (Vodka, rose, cranberry, lime) and Ginger Cosmo (Vodka, triple sec, ginger, cranberry), Andy had the Left Bank (Rosemary infused vodka, green olives, twist of lemon), there were a few Ruby Cowboys (Whiskey, grapefruit, cardamon twist of orange) consumed, the Murder (Red rum, triple sec, cranberry) for Chris, of course, and I believe the only one that left people saying "yuck" was the Apricot (Rum, apricot, spices). Apparently the "spices" portion means SPICY HOT, which is no bueno with the apricot flavoring.

I also tried the French 75, which was Prosecco, lime, and soda. VERY tasty! On special at HH for $6, usually $8.

There were still 4 of us left after 8, which indicates a success! Those who didn't follow Licia, Archer and I to karoake at Kozak's totally missed out on another LATE HH there $2 bottles, $3 wells, and $2.75 pints of something-I-didn't-quite-understand due to my vodka impaired brain.

See you at the next one!

Get Ready

For the Return of Sloshed!

We're serious this time. The need for Sloshed has arisen again, and we're going to get it up and running within the next few weeks.

Come August 1st, Sloshed LIVES.

Wed, Feb. 1st, 2006, 01:58 pm
The Return of Sloshed! Fear us.

Alright kids, it's been WAY TOO LONG, so we're organizing a little return engagement. Here's our proposal:

Friday, 02/03
Von's Grand City Cafe
619 Pine St
Seattle, WA

Happy Hour is listed as 4-7, but we're planning to hit it around 5'ish. I have no idea what the table sitch will be like, so we will have to play it by ear. Also, it's kind of a mystery as to what the HH specials are -- reportedly there's some kind of spinning drink thing that determines the martini of the day or whatnot. Should be interesting!

So come on, all you Sloshed stragglers. Make us make it happen. Help us, help you. :)

As a side note: Von's just happens to be near and dear to my heart -- even though I've only been there once. Show up for stories!

Sloshed is All Grows Up

I've been slacking on my Sloshed duties -- and really it's because work is consuming me, and I had to take a little break for my liver to recover. Fortunately, we've gathered quite a crowd of regulars, so I don't always have to be there. But I do miss it!

Rumor is we have us a secretary now, and so she has written this entry:

Sloshdupdate from [info]violetdawn

8, December, 2005
Cutter’s Bayhouse

Since I work in the International District, and I like to walk, I decided that I’d walk to North of the Pike Place Market and head to last nights SloshdinSeattle gathering. It was cold outside but I was walking a fast clip and the clop of my shoes was pleasing. I wasn’t sure if anyone would be there before me, so I decided to look in the windows before I went inside. Lo’ I saw [info]talldrinkawater sitting at the bar and left the gorgeous view from the park to go inside.

Inside Cutter’s is almost like being in the park outside. They have windows that span the whole south side of the restaurant and bar and you can look out and see the water, the mountains, and the sunset. Glorious! I’d totally take a romantic date to this place. As I sat down with [info]talldrinkawater I realized that there were more people with her, [info]slapthatdonkey, who was sick, and [info]karlweigand were in attendance as well. They had all procured drinks and were waiting on some happy hour appetizers. I asked what the happy hour specials were and decided on the margarita on the rocks.

Cutter’s has a great happy hour deal. It starts at 3pm and lasts until 7pm, then it restarts at 9pm and goes until close. The specials include well drinks, draft beer, house chardonnay and merlot and the margaritas. The appetizers are also half off during happy hour times. Some sushi is also half off during that time.

The ambiance was fairly quiet, the mood lighting was respectable, and we had Alex the waitress at the bar. It took a few minutes for her to come over and ask me if I wanted a drink, but I’m a patient woman, and the drink was worth the wait. As far as margaritas go, I’ve had better, but it wasn’t a pansy pour and there was a lot of salt on the rim and a lime inside on top.

When [info]alki_chick showed up we moved from the bar to some tables in the bar section. Once Ms. Chick got there I was amazed. She brings a lot of energy with her. It was only then that we got to hear the story of "The Pooh Suit."

I was far from sloshd, having had only one drink, but the story of the pooh suit was hilarious. How often do you meet a couple of people that go to gay fetish bars as a straight couple and almost get kicked out? Or end up drunk on shots and putting on a Winnie the Pooh costume in a bar and taking pictures? Oh? You’ve met [info]karlweigand and [info]slapthatdonkey, because reports have it that they are crazy like that!

I was shocked when our new waitress came over and she addressed me by name. I never did catch hers, but Karl had pointed us all out and she actually remembered mine. I didn’t catch if she’d addressed anyone else by name. I couldn’t help but order another margarita from such an attentive waitress. Some comments were made later about her chatting at the bar again, but well, I thought she was nice, and great and she wasn’t pushy about the fact that we didn’t leave until 11pm. I’m not sure why the place wasn’t packed, actually.

But I can’t just talk about those people all day. Other’s showed up as well. Next to arrive was Michael. Apparently he reads sloshdinseattle, but I didn’t catch his lj name. He was also way down the tables from me and I didn’t do much but wave hi when I was told his name. After he arrived my friend Kevin showed up. I like the rest of you all, but I’ve known Kevin for a lot longer and feel a little more comfortable around him, so I was thrilled. For one, I had no idea he was joining our little party. We were still looking out for [info]snotvark and Pauline. Melissa came in during that time as well. Again, another person I didn’t get to talk to much, though when the ranks thinned, and we were sitting next to each other, we shared some conversations. Melissa, you have terribly cute little glasses.

After [info]snotvark arrived Michael, Hanna, Karl, and Erin left. I stole the padded bench seat from where Erin was sitting and was much more comfortable. Pauline came in. Mitzi and Melissa left, after madly texting each other for a bit when they could have touched hands across the table and then left for the bathroom together. I think there was some funny business going on, but I had forgotten to install the bathroom spy cam.

That left Andy, Kevin, Pauline and I to sit and try to remember names of people I never knew and tell silly stories of our on-line shenanigans. I’m not sure exactly how we sat there until 11pm without realize how late it had gotten. But when I heard it was almost 11 I was frankly very shocked. I didn’t have to worry about getting up early, but Kevin and Pauline both had to work the next day. We dropped Pauline off at her car and walked up to Andy’s who gave me and Kevin a ride to my car and I drove him home, since he had stayed past the cut off to get in and get his bike, that he was going to ride home.

Consumed drinkwise:
Erin – oj and water
Karl – water (I think)
Hanna – a couple glasses of house merlot
Me – 2 margaritas
Mitzi – raspberry mojito and estella beer
Kevin – diet coke and mojito
Andy – mojito, car bomb, lavender cosmo, and bloody mary, mac & jacs porter
Micahel – Guinness?
Melissa – raspberry mojito with no fresh raspberries, and a mango mojito
Pauline – plain mojito, rosemary lime cooler (Which tasted to me like cranberry stuffing)

Ordered food wise:
Hanna, Karl, Erin
Garlic Foccasia bread, Gyoza, Breaded Bri with nuts, California roll, Crab Cakes,

Micahel and Melissa
Gyoza

Kevin
Coconut shrimp, pan fried oysters

Andy
Pan fried oysters, dynamite roll

Pauline
Futomaki roll and crab cakes.

I don’t know what the total damage was, Groups paid for their own drinks mostly. Karl, thanks for the Margarita!

Z'tejas - 10.11.05, AKA Sloshed goes "East Side"

Happy Hour
Monday through Friday
3 pm to 6 pm
Half-price appetizers
$5.50 Margaritas
$4 house wine
$1 off draft beer and mixed drinks

For a special impromptu Happy Hour, Sloshed invited some of its East Side peeps over to "The Lodge" at Bell Square for the Z’tejas experience. Fortunately, they had some tasty specialty martinis. Unfortunately, there was no price break on them.

Drink tally:

Amie: Cosmo = very tasty. Slightly sweet, but not too sweet. Chocolate Martini = MMMMM (but still not as good as the Rosebud’s). Stoli/Tonic was good, but I’ve had better.

Andy: Lemongrass Margarita -- I think he said it nearly killed him with the strength. Also a Mojito, he said "too soda-y".

Chris B: Amaretto Sunrise, he proclaimed excellent, and then I think just coke. You can’t really screw up coke too much, to so there you go.

Max: (who we’ll likely NEVER see again, because he doesn’t really love us) Oatmeal Cookie, good. White Russian, tasty.

Licia: Cosmo, she likey. Vodka/7, fine. Chocolate Martini, sans cream. Good, but rich.

Chris L: Margarita Perfecta, he seemed to like. I think he ordered 2. Then the Lemongrass Margarita, which also nearly killed Chris. This is really saying something, people.

Pauline: her standard: Mac N Jac’s. Tap. She said, good!

Appetizer tally:

Cornbread = yum. Slightly sweet, chunks of corn in the bottom.
Nachos = pretty good, not excellent.
Quesadilla (with chicken) = okay. Kind of dry. Had to ASK for sour cream - no salsa, hot sauce? I don’t get it. Where's the crack, people?
Seared Tuna = very tasty, and well worth it at half-price. Spicy sauce kicked it up a bit.

I have no idea what the total bill was, so I’ll let Andy pipe in. Also, while okay, I wasn’t that pleased with the service. We sat at the bar, and it took awhile to get drinks and food. I wouldn’t be too keen on going back again, but since it’s Bellevue, we really only have about 8 places to Happy Hour at, so it may have to be repeated once all other options are exhausted.

Happy Hour continued, 09.23.05

After the Brasa disaster last Friday, with a brief stop at Jai Thai (Happy Hour not fully explored there, yet), Andy, Chris, Stephen and I headed back up towards Pacific Place to hit Jai Thai and hang with my new bartender friend.

But - we made a stop. At Oliver’s Lounge located in the bottom of the Mayflower Park Hotel, which is awesome all by itself. But the bar, MAN! The bar was swank, old school, and wonderful. And - it’s non-smoking! Score! AND! They have the best martinis, ever, ever, ever. AND! I just noticed they have some of the recipes on the web site! Yay!

Drinky count:

Andy: Classic Vodka Martini, and the Infused Mary (Ketel One vodka infused with sun-dried tomatoes, fresh garlic, basil, thyme & rosemary blended with spicy Bloody Mary mix)- both rated very well.

Stephen: Classic Gin Martini, also rated as very, very tasty.

Chris: Cosmo, very grapefruity, but very good.

Amie: OMFG. CaChaCha Climax! More heaven in a glass, and you’re in luck my friends, as the recipe for this one IS on the web site, but for you - I post it here!

• 2 ounces Stolichnaya Gold Vodka
• ½ ounce Stolichnaya Vanilla Vodka
• ½ ounce Ginger Nectar (made from Brazilian Cachacha sugarcane liqueur, ginger and water simmered over low heat until reduced to a syrup)
• 1 Lemon Wedge
• 1 Piece Candied Ginger
• 1 Lemon Twist

Holy god. That stuff is good.

Then we watched as the bartender got in a fight with a crazy older woman who is now Andy’s new best friend. Or, she wishes. She was having a party in her room and wanted to buy a bottle of alcohol for…$15. The bartender refused, and she got all pissy. Then he got all pissy and started saying, "Look, we have to MAKE MONEY here, we’re a bar! Not a liquor store!", and then she offered $40. He ended up selling her 7 shots for $33, in one big glass. I wonder if she made it back to the room with it? Or did she just throw down the whole thing herself in the elevator?

Here’s my question - if you know you’re having a party, wouldn’t you plan ahead? Like, have plenty of bottles? And if not, break into the mini-bar? Or just bring the whole slew of ladies down to the bar to drink? Room service, perhaps? I guess I don’t get it.

Eventually, we moved on to Thai Ginger, as Oliver’s is very spendy, and finished off the night there. It was lovely, I was tanked. The end.

Mon, Sep. 26th, 2005, 01:03 pm
Brasa 09.23.05

Let me just begin by saying that Brasa was possibly the worst place to have a large Happy Hour. This setting would likely be better for a small, intimate group or date -- it was totally non-conducive to our larg-ish, fluctuating party. The cocktails & food were tasty, but the prices are out of control, especially portion wise. And the check-splitting did not go as planned. Disaster ensued. No good. Anyway:

I started with The Vamp, a very nice blood red martini with pomegranate and some other fruity things I’m not sure about. Mostly I was enthralled by the color. Then I moved on to the Suki-Suki, which Andy had ordered earlier. Coffe/chocolate, etc. Good stuff. My vote for the best there.

Andy had The Veranda, which I think he enjoyed. What was in that, Andy? I forget.

Hanna had the Judy Jeston, which was orange and orange and orange. Me no likely the orange, but she liked it. Then she had the WORST OF THE WORST my friends, The Vesper. Avoid at all costs, unless you like the taste of bug repellant. Cereal.

Stephen had the Sea of Cortez, which looked a little strong to me, but he seemed to like it.

Chris was drinking an Amaretto Sunrise, which also repelled me. But it’s his thing, and he liked it, so that’s all that matters. He later moved on to the Judy Jetson.

Food:
We ordered the cheese plate, which was totally not worth it -- even at half-price. The frites, which were tasty with the garlic aoli. The fried oysters, also tasty, also with garlic aoli, the mashed potatoes, very good & buttery, and the steak/frites plate, which I braved a few bites of. Melted cheese on top of the steak = very good. Tender, cooked just right, yum. Michael & Melissa* shared some hummus, which I hear was excellent, and Celina* had some olives, which she also said were tasty.

WARNING! Hanna says The Vesper = No Beuno:

If you see this drink, run the other way, quickly. It may develop legs and follow you. Ignore it!

This Sloshed installment will be continued in another entry - due to lengthiness.

*Not sure what y’all were drinking down at the end. The martinis bit me and you were kinda blurry, then you left to see Trent’s guns before I got back to ask you.
